About: Ginger Beard Coffee upgraded their roasting capabilities by procuring an in-house state-of-the-art $69K coffee roaster that’s electric, ventless, and automatic—and capable of roasting hundreds of pounds of coffee per week. Due to this high traffic usage, it is extremely important for owners and technicians to regularly service and maintain the machine, particularly the filter relay. Aside from creating a short infomercial for GB’s nitro coffee products line, I made a user guide to Reverse the Order of the HEPA and Carbon Filter assembly to assist in the technical care of in-house maintenance and particulate removal which involved taking new photos, designing a document template to align with their corporate style guide, reorganization of material to aid usability and comprehension, and editing of previous materials for language grammar, and consistency.

Target Audience: Coffee roasters, cafe employees, and machine technicians aged 18-65 servicing ground-level Bellwether roasting machines in a commercial size.

Importance: Neglecting to routinely and properly clean/replace filters in a commercial machine of this size (2.7kg roast capacity) could result in dangers such as a roaster fire, ignition of the built-up chaff chamber, machine malfunctioning, heat hazards, inadequate roasting capabilities, unripe product output, or complete machine shutdown.

Authoring Tools: Instructional photographs taken on-site and with permission of Bellwether Service Desk; video characters and artwork depicted are adapted from the clientele’s previous advertising campaigns and merchandise and converted into Vyond additions, with introductions of newer depictions aided by Canva and Adobe InDesign and Illustrate. Trello and reMarkable were used for storyboarding and iterative design, while Google workspace was used as the organizing template for final project files and accessibility.
